Torian Resources Limited (ASX: TNR) (Torian or the company) is pleased to report yttrium anomalies in the area of its Mt Stirling Central project.

Yttrium is associated as a key indicator of rare earth mineral potential in critical metal exploration. As part of the Company’s ongoing systematic exploration of Mount Stirling Gold Project, a total of 151 AV DHs systematically targeted the Arktos Fault and structures adjacent to the Wishbone Prospect for Arsenic and Au vectoring scouts. Field reconnaissance work confirmed the presence of potential breccias in the Proterozoic granites and outcrops, where the potential for a structural model of rare earth minerals was also recognized.

The emphasis on the presence of yttrium was confirmed by pXRF processing of ground surface points to guide AV drilling, for gold exploration. Subsequently, oxide intervals in the AV drill samples revealed the enrichment of discrete yttrium anomalies on a broad scale of 1 km. 36 AV DH were determined to contain a peak interval counter >100 ppm yttrium (pXRF), with a peak of 521 ppm yttrium (MSAV0878). 170 (>100 ppm pXRF Yttrium) 1 m intervals from 41 AV holes have been submitted and are awaiting multi-element analysis (including analysis of the rare earth analysis suite). The Company expects confirmation of yttrium and rare earth elements by the end of the month. Executive Director of Torian, Mr. Peretz Schapiro said: “The discovery of this significant and potentially significant rare earth anomaly on our terms of reference provides further affirmation of our methodical and systematic exploration strategy underway at Mount Stirling Gold Project. AV samples have already been sent for multi-element testing and we look forward to laboratory confirmation within two weeks. If these results provide us with positive confirmation, we will seek to develop this potentially large target with a rare earth exploration program beginning as soon as possible.

We are excited to potentially add a rare earths project to our development plans in the Mount Stirling Gold Project. Rare earth supply shortages have been well documented and have led to significant price increases in the industry.

These increases appear to be happening at a much faster rate than even some of the most optimistic forecasts from just a few months ago.

All credit goes to our exploration team, expertly led by Mr. Claudio Sheriff Zegers, who patiently followed our exploration strategy of continuous and sometimes tedious pXRF soil screening, followed by vacuum auger drilling and sampling. This led to today’s discovery in addition to the discovery of at least 5 high priority gold targets where primary gold was subsequently confirmed.

rare earth elements

The importance of REEs is essential in high technology, with uses in renewable technologies through electronics and lighting, electric vehicles, powerful magnets, wind turbines, displays, robotics, glass lenses and optics, automotive catalytic converters, batteries and steel alloys, and defence/military systems and applications. Although rare earths are abundant in the earth’s crust, exploitable concentrations are less common, resulting in rare earth deposits and favorable metallurgical extraction that is extremely valuable and strategic.

Heavy rare earths (HREE)

Samarium; Europium; Gadolinium; Terbium; Dysprosium; holmium; Erbium; Thullium; Ytterbium; Yttrium Torian looks forward to confirmation by laboratory analysis of the presence of yttrium in the oxide, as he seeks to expand the footprint of surface and oxide yttrium with further pXRF fieldwork. Once the analyzes are received, the presence and ratio of heavy to light rare earths can be calculated, in order to understand the type of REE occurrence and the vector of potential mineralization accordingly. The Company’s goal remains to provide updated gold resources for the Project and to understand the scale and significance of MS Central’s critical rare earth potential.

Further details on the Company’s regional exploration will be presented in an upcoming Company announcement.
