Getting to Know the Garrison: Internal Audit Office | Item

FORT LEONARD WOOD, Missouri – The Fort Leonard Wood Internal Review Office is the Garrison Commander’s primary advisor on internal control and audit matters.
According to Director Michelle Isbell, the IRO strengthens our nation’s defense strategy by further securing federal assets and mitigating fraud, waste and abuse through a variety of audit services.
“We are an independent and objective audit and analysis activity within Command designed to add value and improve Command operations,” Isbell said. “We provide commanders and their staffs with a full range of professional and timely internal review services that support local decision makers and ensure effective management.”
Isbell said the IRO helps Fort Leonard Wood organizations achieve their goals by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to fostering positive and sound management through an objective review of evidence with the aim of providing an independent assessment of management. risks ; the control and governance processes within the organization; and reasonable assurance that these processes are functioning properly.
“We coordinate with senior leaders to identify high risk areas and advocate for their needs in the annual audit plan,” she said. âWe can look across the spectrum to identify areas of improvement for soldier and family services and for mission readiness. “
